Do you have one of those statements that you pin up and reference again and again? You know, that moving shrewdness that gets you when you’re feeling down, or gives you lucidity when things become hard to see. Will smith quotes
quotes from will smith is actually that for me.
As an entrepreneur younger than 30 (however, I won’t have the option to state that any longer) I get asked on a regular basis, “How would you do it? How would you start a business? How would you oversee individuals, manage customers, and continue onward?” With a large number of counsel and books and courses and mentors out there sharing how-to’s and tips for pioneering achievement my reaction is consistently the equivalent, and it generally references back to Smith’s statement.
I buckle down. I work more enthusiastically than most are happy to work. Now and again in many cases, I don’t have lucidity on what I’m moving in the direction of, and the goal ahead is a long way from clear. In any case, I continue onward. I continue working.
I feel that is the reason I got running long-distance races a couple of years back. There is something in particular about the trial of will and perseverance, particularly when the end goal is no place insight, that is unimaginably spurring. Running a long-distance race isn’t an opposition to every other person it’s opposition against yourself. When your feet are slaughtering you when you can’t inhale when you’re depleted… will you continue onward?
Some time back I posed the inquiry, “What torment are you ready to suffer?” I posed that inquiry on the grounds that the appropriate response is the thing that you–today–ought to become laser-concentrated on progressing in the direction of. As Seth Godin puts it:
“We know what you want to accomplish. We know how you’d like everything to turn out. The real question is, “what are you willing to push through the dip for?” What are you willing to stand up for, bleed for, commit to and generally be unreasonable about? Because that’s what’s going to actually get done.”
“The only thing that I see that is distinctly different about me is I’m not afraid to die on a treadmill. I will not be outworked. Period. You might have more talent than me, you might be smarter than me, you might be sexier than me; you might be all of those things – you got it on me in nine categories. But if we get on the treadmill together, there’s two things: You’re getting off first, or I’m gonna die. It’s really that simple, right? … You’re not going to outwork me.” ~ Will Smith
“I’m not afraid to die on a treadmill. I will not be outworked. Period. You might have more talent than me. You might be smarter than me. And you may be sexier than me. But if we get on a treadmill together there’s two things that’ll happen. You are going to get off first or I’m going to die. It’s really that simple. I’m not going to be outworked.”
“Throughout life people will make you mad, disrespect you, and treat you bad. Let God deal with the things they do, cause hate in your heart will consume you too.”
“I want the world to be better because I was here.”
“Stop letting people who do so little for you control so much of your mind, feelings and emotions.”
“Money and success dont change people; they merely amplify what is already there.”
“We spend money that we do not have, on things we do not need, to impress people who do not care.”
“The only thing that I see that is distinctly different about me is I’m not afraid to die on a treadmill. I will not be out-worked, period. You might have more talent than me, you might be smarter than me, you might be sexier than me, you might be all of those things you got it on me in nine categories. But if we get on the treadmill together, there’s two things: You’re getting off first, or I’m going to die. It’s really that simple, right?”
“Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are better at hiding it than others.”
“Dont chase people. Be yourself, do your own thing and work hard. The right people the ones who really belong in your life will come to you. And stay.”
“There are so many people who have lived and died before you. You will never have a new problem; youre not going to ever have a new problem. Somebody wrote the answer down in a book somewhere.”
“The separation of talent and skill is one of the greatest misunderstood concepts for people who are trying to excel, who have dreams, who want to do things. Talent you have naturally. Skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft.”
“Dont ever let someone tell you that you cant do something. You got a dream, you gotta protect it. When people cant do something themselves, they are going to tell you that you cant do it. You want something, go get it. Period.”
“If youre not making someone elses life better, than you are wasting your time. Your life will become better by making other peoples lives better.”
“If you’re not willing to work hard, let someone else do it. I’d rather be with someone who does a horrible job, but gives 110% than with someone who does a good job and gives 60%.”
“The first step is you have to say that you can.”
“When you create art, the world has to wait.”
When you fully believe you will not be outworked, and you’re unwavering in your focus, I promise you, friends, good things will come. No magic pill. No self-help seminar. No blog post like this. Just you + your hustle.
Then again, maybe it is just my dashing good looks…
